Auditory Perception and Cognition Society Awards

Supporting students and broadening participation in Auditory Science

The Auditory Perception and Cognition Society is happy to announce the fourth annual APCS Travel and Membership Awards to support students and broaden their scope of participation in auditory science. The competitive APCS Travel Award is designed to increase participation of excellent students from underrepresented populations in auditory science, broadly defined, with a stipend of $500 USD to support their attendance at our annual APCAM meeting. This award also includes one year of free APCS membership and APCAM registration. In addition, the competitive APCS Membership Award is designed to cover registration fees for participants with financial need, regardless of rank.

Travel Award Eligibility

  • Students from populations traditionally underrepresented in auditory science are encouraged to apply for the travel award.
  • Applicants for the travel award must be the first author and presenter of a poster or talk submitted for presentation at the upcoming APCAM Conference.

Travel Award Recipients Receive

  • Competitive travel award ($500 USD).
  • Free membership to APCS for one year (including APCAM registration).
  • A special notation in the Abstract Book indicating the honor.
  • Honor that can be listed on the student’s vita.

Membership Award Eligibility

  • Students, postdocs, and faculty with substantial financial need are encouraged to apply for the free membership award.
  • Applicants for the free membership program must be the presenter of a poster or talk submitted for presentation at the upcoming APCAM Conference.

Membership Award Recipients Receive

  • Free membership to APCS for one year (including APCAM registration).
  • A special notation in the Abstract Book indicating the honor.
  • Honor that can be listed on the member’s vita.

Application Process

APPLICATION DEADLINE: The same date that abstracts are submitted.

  • Applicants must have submitted an abstract for the upcoming Auditory Perception Cognition and Action Meeting (APCAM) conference.
  • After abstract submission, applicants should complete the APCS Awards application by the posted abstract submission deadline, including:
    • Abstract title of your abstract for the upcoming APCAM.
    • Indicate whether you are applying for the membership award or the travel award (which also includes membership).
    • Personal Statement (300 word limit): Please briefly explain how you fit the criteria for this award and how the award will help support your journey in the field of auditory science.
    • Contact information for someone willing to support your application for the APCS Travel Award (not required for Membership Award).

Process Overview

  • Members of the board will review each nomination and make their recommendation to the Chair, who forwards the list to the APCS Board for final approval.
  • Successful candidates are notified by the Society within one day of abstract acceptance.
  • Recipients are not eligible for the travel award in the following year’s competition.

Member Support

These awards are made possible by the generous donations of members and meeting sponsors. Members may choose to donate a “gift membership” when they register for APCAM. Donors will be gratefully acknowledged in the conference program.
